Fixing paint
Well, that didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to.
The house is now chocolate brown. WAY too dark but salvageable.
The house section isn’t the problem, it’s that the dark brown color makes the front porch look like a black hole. It’s not very inviting. Of course I chose a bronze-colored outer door and lighting treatments, both rather dark.
At least with the awful previous flesh-color you could see the porch and front door. Now, it’s just toooooo dark.
I tried convincing the painter that the color wasn’t working but it was such a trial to get him to show up that I didn’t want to make things worse. So it’s up to me to fix this problem and the only real solution is a lighter shade of brown paint on the porch and a new color for the trim. After choosing wrong once, I’m hesitant to choose again.
The green trim around the windows is a nice, safe color and I don’t like it. There’s not enough contrast and it’s not a fresh, inviting color.
I’m going through an entire library of color combination books and paint store swatches finding not only the right color but the courage to go with what I like. Finding the right color is easier than finding the courage to embrace what you want.
It sounds like a lighter color is the best choice, though I’m not sure you should change the color of the trim … shouldn’t it match the rest of the house?
I don’t want to repaint the whole house – I don’t want to spend the money but I will be repainting the front porch and the trim. Porch first, trim second. Work in progress.
