That’s not how you paint
Today I threw a roller brush filled with white paint at the closet wall.
Bad paint will do that to you. It wasn’t my fault; it was the paint’s.
I have three closets that were roughed-in last year and they have stood without benefit of primer and paint. Now that shelves and new doors are looming those closets had to be painted. I tried a very light-yellow primer/paint combo and I demo’d it on one wall. It was way too bright. I had a few leftover gallons of Home Depot’s white semi-gloss paint and patted myself on the back for storing the three cans. It was leftover from a painting party last year where most painted ended up on my friends rather than on the walls. What a fun party that was!
I kept the paint cans securely closed and in a warm place. I used quality roller brushes and an expensive brush for painting the upteen corners that can’t be reached except for an act of God.
The paint has sat well and I thought it would be OK but it turns out slightly older paint (At this altitude? This time of year? Did I forget to make an offering to the Paint Gods?) covers like mud and I’d had enough. I’ve spent hours in those closets, in the dark, standing on a ladder trying to primer a thousand corners and issue a final coat.
Since I couldn’t get the paint to cover the only solution was to throw the roller. It worked. Those corners are covered with a nice layer of Home Depot white semi-gloss paint.
Don’t judge me.
