Sun/Rain/Snow/More Snow

The same old song played again – more snow for the Conifer area.

It’s the middle of May and the Denver metro area and foothills got slammed again with a ton of very heavy wet snow.

But before the snow arrived, the rains came and flooded area streams and flooded roads and basements. In Eastern Colorado, tornadoes touched down and thunderstorms painted the Colorado radar bright red.

Brook Forest area is famous for flooding and last year’s floods wiped out driveways and homeowners got to learn about flood insurance. On May 9, the picnic area near Brook Forest flooded out.

The rain turned to snow and it was very wet and heavy. The trees in the Unenchanted Forest swayed drunkenly with the weight of the snow and I was sure I’d have many trees go down but I didn’t lose a single tree.

I did lose power overnight. I was surprised when the lights came back on at 3 a.m.

Other neighbors had seriously damage – down in the Tall Tree Forest on Shadow Mountain Drive one of the huge 150-foot tree keeled over onto a house and 1-ton truck. Driveways that spanned creeks washed out.

My rain gauge had 3.5 inches of water in it after the storm was over. the sun peeked out for a few minutes and hid back behind the fog and clouds.

It’s Colorado in the spring and the wild weather is just beginning. Next will come the extreme heat but for now it’s all about snow, in May, in Colorado.
